So, you decided to give up porn, huh?

And now you're not feeling that well and you're wondering how long the porn withdrawals last?

Perhaps you are searching the web for some kind of NoFap / reboot timeline?

Well, today' I'm sharing a graph from my own rebooting days that you might find interesting.

Stay with me here...

NoFap / Quitting Porn Withdrawal Timeline

Scandinavian Bob here, hi!

A few days ago, while I was going through some of my old rebooting journals, a paper fell out of one of the notebooks and it showed a graph I made during one of my streaks.

I can't find any exact date on it, but those of you who have been following me for a while know that I struggled with relapses for years before I finally managed to quit using porn.

And I would guess that this graph is from the year 2016, or something like that.

Now, it's just a crappy graph with no real X or Y axis, so I probably just estimated my mood against the squares of the paper.

My porn addiction withdrawal timeline....

But it's still interesting because it gets the point across.

So, I copied the paper to paint, and this is what it looks like.

The numbers are obviously how many days into the streak I was. And then the graph shows a combination of my mood, energy and just how life felt in general, at that time.

The "R" here on the left means "relapse".

This was not my first no porn streak...

So this was not my first streak. And it was not my last streak either. This means I didn't start from a real high level.

As you can clearly see, it took me about 3 weeks just to start feeling a bit better. And this is very indicative of an addiction.

Two weeks after quitting a porn addiction dopamine levels are low...

In fact, in the book "Dopamine Nation" by Dr. Anna Lembke, she talks about how, in most clients, she can clearly see that two weeks is not enough to reset a dopamine system. And that two weeks after quitting, the dopamine levels are still painfully low,

Now, of course it depends a bit on the person, but that's the general case. Anna is an addiction expert, and she really knows what she's talking about.

And in the chapter "Dopamine fasting", she also mentions a brain imaging study, by Nora Volkow, showing the exact same thing. Namely, that two weeks after quitting, dopamine levels are still painfully below baseline levels.

Well, my personal rebooting graph mirrors the science pretty well there, wouldn't you say?

Not all my streaks were 100% identical...

But also, keep in mind that we are all different. And also, not every streak that I had followed this exact same pattern. Some of the had a much longer low period here *see video*. And some of them had way sharper ups and downs as well.

However, I clearly remember that most of my streaks did indeed look pretty similar to this one.

And it also shows something that I always knew back then...

If you're addicted to porn, then relapsing every 14th day is not good enough.

If you relapse every other week you'll just keep spinning your wheels...

Why?

Well, just look at the graph!

If you do that, you'll just keep spinning your wheels and you never really get to the good side.

Now, if you're not addicted, then it's a different matter. And then your graph will probably look a whole lot different as well. But again, I really was addicted.

And I know a lot of my subscribers are, as well.

Now, the irony with that is that, most of the time I actually did relapse right around here *see video*.

The second week is hard...

That was my weak spot, because right around here, I used to feel so incredibly bad, and so empty in my chest. Yes, my long term subscribers have heard me call this period "The Void" many times in my videos.

It was like I had a black hole in my chest, and I often, stupidly, just gave up and choose to relapse right around here.

An interesting thing to notice with this NoFap / quitting porn timeline graph is the transient testosterone spike that happens on day 7.

Well, it kind of looks like I did notice some energy increase right around there *see video*. But since I was deep into this low period, I felt way too bad to fully notice it.

A relapse can give you a temporary relief from withdrawals...

Another interesting thing about the NoFap graph is, well you can see that the day after my relapse is actually better than the day before.

And, yes, this was almost always the case for me.

And so, now some of you may go, "Oh come on! How's that even possible?"

Well, it could be some lingering feel good chemicals in the brain after the bingeing fest. And it perhaps takes a while for the dust to settle, so to speak.

But also, well, let's say I'm on day 13 here, before this relapse *see video*. Well, again, the dopamine is very low right then, and I probably have withdrawals. So then when I relapse I get a temporary relief from those withdrawals.

Which is probably why day 1 here feels better *see video*.

But then you just have to go through hell one more time...

Ss you can see, 'temporary' is the exact right word, because after day 1, the descent into hell starts all over again, and I had to go through those hellish weeks one more time.

Now, with time, I did learn how to stop relapsing.

So, even though I can have some bad days every now and then, just like all of us can, there are no more relapses and no more descents into hell.

And I can also tell you that, for me, the improvements didn't stop here at day 37. No no no, it keeps climbing and gets better for many weeks after that, with a few ups and downs, of course.

So, anyway, when I found this graph I thought I'd show it to you guys, as you perhaps might find it interesting.
