Are you trying to quit porn?

And you're doing a so-called PMO reboot?

Wondering when to reset on NoFap?

If so, this is for you...

NoFap Reset (Your Counter vs Your Brain)

Scandinavian Bob here, hi.

A couple of days ago I got the following comment…

“I used to have over 60 days on NoFap but then I started getting stressed and wondering if things counted as relapse or not. I decided to restart the days without relapsing as I realized I wasn't recovering properly and getting extremely sad.

However I didn't know if my brain would restart like if I actually relapsed. So I was still stressed. So now I'm wondering, should I actually relapse and watch p*rn so I can maybe heal properly (idk if I will) or continue the days but stress even more.

I don't really want to watch p*rn though as it will give me more trauma probably.”

Thank you for the comment...

Yes so, first of all thank you for the comment, and the reason I decided to make a video about this is because it is actually very common to think like this, and I sometimes did it myself back when I was rebooting..

It’s very common to feel an urge to start over and do a “better job” or a cleaner streak when we feel we haven't been 100% strict or even if we’re unsure of what counts a what.

But if we think like that we are not being logical and so there are two things I want to highlight here.

The first one is if you guys are using a counter and something happens and you become unsure of whether or not to reset..

What you do with the counter doesn't change what has already happened in the brain...

Ok, so you have to understand that everything up until today belongs in the past. And that what has happened has already happened and you can’t change that.

So, as far as your brian recovery is concerned it doesn’t matter if you put your counter on day 1 or day 30 or even day 300 after a slip or whatever has happened.

And in terms of healing here's where the streak mentality doesn’t make sense because what dictates how well your brain is doing is more like the total amount of time away from porn in the last 6 months or so, not just what happened yesterday or even the last couple of weeks.

A lousy last week doesn not have to mean a lousy brain...

For example, you can have had a lousy last week and still be doing pretty damn well.

The day-counter is only there to serve you and when it comes to the question whether or not you should reset after certain different activities, you just have to be honest with yourself and ask yourself what you are using your counter for.

IF it is to keep track of the last time you broke some of your rebooting rules then yeah, whenever you break a rule that is important for you, you should reset.

And by the way, what those rules are is something that’s totally up to you. But realize this, whatever makes you reset the counter, that doesn't mean that your brain is back to day 1 in terms of brain health and how much recovery’s been made. It’s not the same thing at all.

In terms of brain recovery, one person's day 1 can be another person's day 70 and so on.

Deliberately watching porn to reset...

Ok and the second thing I want to talk about is this sentence here, “So now I'm wondering, should I actually relapse and watch p*rn so I can maybe heal properly”,

…and by that I assume he means so that he can reset the counting and try to keep his next streak super clean.

But it doesn’t matter what he means because in all possible scenarios the answer is still going to be “NO”.

If you’re doing a reboot and trying to fix your brain, you should never watch porn on purpose.

Do NOT do it...

No matter if your streak is kind of broken with some small misses here and there, because it all comes down to what I said right here, that “everything up until today belongs in the past.” because in fact, everything up until this very minute belongs in the past.

And if you have done something that’s not good for you in the past, then why on earth would deliberately doing it again make anything better?

Think of it like this, porn is like poison for your mind, right?

Porn is like poison for your mind...

Well let’s say you accidentally drank a small amount of poison this morning, and a few hours you notice that and go, “Oh no…oh, man, poison is not good for me, but since I already drank a small amount of it this morning, I might as well deliberately drink this big glass of it right now.” ??

Of course you wouldn't.

You can think of your rebooting the same way, the less poison the better, regardless of what your previous weeks looked like.
